Big Boi : Sir Luscious Leftoof; Son Of Chico Dusty Album Review

First let me start this off by proclaiming how excited I am to review this album. Im pretty big on Outkast so to get news on an album like this...def. something I had to get in on.

1.Feel Me - ?/10
Just a dope little intro with that classic 'kast sound...piano...guitar wang...vocoder done properly...sounds like Sleepy Brown doing what he does best...can't really rate it, its a good way to start this album of though.

2.Daddy Fat Sax - 9.5/10
Big busting out the gates with this one...production is super...content wise its just him doing what he does..."i write knockout songs you write punchlines for money" = ain't that the damn truth. The chorus samples B-Real which sounds like it was off the cut he did on Stankonia. Dopeness...

3.Turns Me On - 10+
Wow. I don't know how to explain the awesomeness of this song...the beat is painfully smooth, the keys, the synths, the bassline oozes sex...this is some shit you close the curtains too. Sleepy Brown murks the chorus (as always) Big Boi delivers verse after verse of slickness...the beat compliments his vocals and vice versa..."callin out my name when i ask her "who's is this?"" now ya see...that's just righteous, man...lol. Something freaks of both sexes can appreciate...

4.Follow us - 10+
Im trying to keep my review as unbiased as I can. But seriously, this shit is fuckin hot! I mean, im not going to try to sound professional for this particular song, im gonna keep it 19 years old. This shit is just dope...the beat has some knockin drums, the bass is thumping...the synths are all put together correctly...the way certain horns come in and out...Big Boi delivers as always...Vonnegutt almost sounds out of place until you realize this is an Outkast song (essentially) and than you realize how dope the collabo is when it all falls down...some down south hip hop revival shit.

5.Shutterbugg - 10+
The first time I heard this song I liked it. After the 5th listen I still liked it. Is it good under the influence? = Even better. lol. I could compare this to "The Way You Move", but I won't. It's almost better...(yeah, its that good). It sounds like Big Boi is still evolving...the way he structures songs, the transitions of the production...and for being 16 years in the game that's saying alot of things...unfortunately this song prob. won't be as much of a smash as TWYM...because well, the times have changed. Regardless, for a hip hop head like me...this will be enjoyed all summer and next summer. Spkrbxx/TLB lasted me 8 years...this one should do about the same

6.General Patton - 9.2
At first listen, I wasn't too crazy about this song. I knew I had to give it a few listens and take my time on it...which I did. Good thing I did...it grew on me and now reminds me of some Southernplayalistic 2010 shit...its dirty south hardcore rap. The beat knocks, Big Boi carries a kingpin complex (which he put work in for). Once again, the whole mood of this song just sounds like Big trying to revive a lost history of culture...Big Rube at the end def. puts the sprinkles on this fuckin cupcake. "if we just stop lying"....now ain't THAT the truth...this half of the 'Kast obviously cares about the youth still...

7.Tangerine - 10+
I remember seeing a clip of Big Boi and Killer Mike bumping this out of an SUV and the audio quality may have been weak but holy shit it sounded like it banged. And yep, it sure does. You really need to understand how incredible of a knocker this song is...Big Boi delivers the top verse (im not a fan of T.I.) The beat thumps...dirty south banger.

8.You Ain't No DJ - 9.6
Andre 3K on the boards...ahh its so refreshing to hear Andre pumping some heat rocks like this. The beat is superior first of all...Big Boi droppin witty lines...the flow is clean as can be...his presence is felt like none else...the adlibs are creative with dog barks and alien "greetings" included. The chorus is fresh, nothing too crazy but it provides the right backdrop. Yelawolf is quickly becomming one of my fav newcomers...great scit-scatter flow. Both of the MC's attribute great verses, but the chorus and song title don't match the content, which would have made this song a complete 10 to me...

9.Hustle Blood - 8.5
This one had to grow on me as well, of course I heard the album first on headphones so I wasn't aware of how solid every single production on the album really was. Jamie Foxx delivers a proper vocal verse to start the song off...chorus is good...Big Boi doubles the flow (which was very necessary for this production in particular) The first verse is full of swag...this guy knows what he's doing. The charisma...the way he builds verses...the transitions of the songs, its not your typical Verse/Chorus/Verse/Chorus/Verse/Chorus patterns either...good song to bump in the whip. Not exactly sure what the song's about, but I believe it's about a girl falling for a hustler.

10.Be Still - 10
The production is flashy, snappy, electric, dreamlike...Janelle Monae is extremely talented. The chorus is great, Big Boi delivers as expected, you really oughta wonder what Andre would sound like on these songs and the possibility of how much more amazing of an album this would have been with his flow complimenting each track. But the guest features are def. appreciated and get the job done. I like this song alot in particular, sounds like Janelle is advising young hearts out there to take it easy and don't just throw their love around...which is a message that should be spread alot more through mainstream music.

11.Fo Yo Sorrows - 10+
George Clinton is dope, Sam Chris lays down a smooth hook, Too Short does just enough to compliment the song. The production is insane...some lala burning shit. Weed anthem? : Check. Big Boi rides the beat with a fluid-smooth delivery...it's just another dope track where Big Boi is droppin some truth hurts kind of shit...reminding us whats wrong and right from his perspective, and in all honesty, his opinion sounds pretty justified.

12.Night Night - 10+
The whole execution of this song is flawless. The production is electric, alive, vibrant, uptempo, just the way you want Outkast music. The transitions are clear, the song melodies are clean, Big Boi keeping it real as can possibly be kept. That freestyle he spit in walmart about a year ago on youtube? Yeah, its on here too lol. Only true 'Kast fans know what im talking about...the beat drops out at the perfect moment as well. See, the mood control is also flawless...B.o.B does a good job on the chorus as well. I love the energy of this track...

13.Shine Blockas - 10++ (Pick Of The Album)
Man, this song just feels so right. The second you hear the soulful beat, its apparent that Big Boi is still colder than polar bears toe nail, fuck thats an understatement. The production is foolishly smooth, Gucci Mane of all people actually sounds good on the chorus and his verse is equally entertaining. Big Boi takes the 3rd verse to the next level, as the organs come in...man, chills all up the back. Just imagine if this song was the #1 song in america instead of Black Eyed Peas or some bullshit...no disrespect to BEP, but this shit right here is just...this would have been treated differently 10 years ago. That's all I can say. I appreciate this song to the fullest. I get it...lol

14.The Train Pt.II - 10
"Kids common sense aint common when your minds stuck". This song sounds like a continuation of General Patton and The Train...Big Boi wants to educate and entertain and this he does successful. What he's saying is true...these rappers complain when they get locked up for some bullshit but when you talk about how gangsta you are on every track what do you expect the public's perception of you to be? Be about it. And you gotta respect that...the production is great too. On some ATLIens shit...the mambo shit at the end is pretty cool too lol.

15.Back Up Plan - 10
Excellent way to end an already solid album! The production knocks, the chorus is smooth, almost reminds me of "Morris Brown" (tempo wise and structure). I like how he doesn't try to get all serious or conscious on the outro...which is just so repetitive especially for a veteran such as Big Boi. The song is fun, and that's what makes this album so great. Is because there isn't really a certain message to be learned here...the only clear indication is that HIP HOP CAN STILL BE FUN, FRESH, FUNKY AND CREATIVE at the same time! And thank the universe we have Outkast (especially Big Boi) to remind us. Thanks Big Boi, you got me excited for hip hop again!

OVERALL - 9.6
This album is close to classic. If we would have had some Andre verses and a couple little loose ends tied together, than id say its completely flawless. Im not saying Big Boi can't put an album together on his own (this shit is hotter than anything that came out in 2010 so far...BOB, Eminem, you name it) but if you have been following Outkast as long as I have...sometimes even the stellar guests (Yelawolf, Janelle Monae, Sleepy Brown) just can't seem to replace the chemistry him and Andre had together. All I can say is im glad I ordered this CD off Amazon and I hope anyone out there reading this does the same.
